Attention freelancers

We're probably looking for someone full time, but if that won't work for you, and you really think you'd be a great fit, we want to hear from you too.

Yes, it's true — we're looking to add one person (full-time or dedicated freelance) to the 37signals team. We're busy.

If you are a driven, simplicity-loving web interface designer, HTML/CSS guru, and usability expert (yes, all of those in one person), we want to get to know you.

You should be passionate about what 37signals stands for:

  • Industry-leading clean, simple, clear "HTMinimaLism" interface design
  • Concise, to the point, BS-free copywriting
  • Tight "as-standards-compliant-as-possible" HTML/CSS code
  • Truthful, open and honest communication with all people at all times
  • ...And a laser-like focus on delivering the most usable and useful web-based solutions for our very special select group of clients and their customers

We also do a fair bit of research, writing, and heuristic usability reviews so insightful, objective analysis skills, writing skills and clear communication skills are a major plus. And, we don't have project managers so you'll be leading your own projects and interfacing with clients directly.

We're looking for someone who...

  • Thinks design is about solving problems, not introducing them
  • Gets more kicks out of removing elements from a page than adding them
  • Wants to do great work for great clients
  • Understands that there's more to "simple" than white space
  • Thinks before they design
  • Wants to learn, push themselves, and make the web a better place
  • Understands design is about making things easier, clearer, and more useful for real people
  • Knows usability can be elegant and beautiful
  • Thinks about every single pixel and every single detail, but realizes the web is an imperfect medium that requires designers to be flexible and embrace the web's uncertainty

We're not concerned with your education — we're concerned with your experience. We don't want to see your resume, we want to see your recent work. Real world experience is where it's at. We'd prefer if you were in Chicago, but if you're the one, and you don't live in Chicago, we'll see if we can work something out.
