For all those who like The Word Nerds, I can’t recommend highly enough the late John Ciardi’s On Words. The episodes never last as long as I’d like, but his carefully crafted explanations are packed with clever puns, double-entendres, and etymological inside jokes.

For about the same amount of word nerdery as a single “On Words” episode, but stretched out to a fifty-minute call-in show, check out KPBS’s A Way with Words. It’s quaint and contemporary, and yet most episodes include several references to the Oxford English Dictionary.

One of my favorite features is the “Market Report”, wherein their roving reporter visits the local Farmer’s Market, chatting with all the producers.
