A Mac OS X widget?

Jim Jeffers 31 Jul 09

I’m going with an iPhone app.

Rick Vugteveen 31 Jul 09

Looks like a identity card or license to me. I’m going to guess unification of user accounts across all apps into a single “37signals id” for each user. If I’m right I will be very happy. Been waiting for years.

Denis Fadeev 31 Jul 09

“little something”, this is definitely not an iPhone app. Maybe, a widget (Dashboard or for the web)?

Doug 31 Jul 09

Guessing a new service based around financial management.

Steve A 31 Jul 09

A new line of Band-Aids?

Dan 31 Jul 09

Augmented reality project? :P

Nicholas Henry 31 Jul 09

37 Signals branded VISA card? :)

Pete 31 Jul 09

Augmented reality business card for 37 signals?

Douglas Neiner 31 Jul 09

I agree with @RickVugteveen. Its got to do with security or identity. Sure wish it was a digital/printed card so i would never have to type a password again ;)

David Harthcock 31 Jul 09

Easily a hybrid name tag/new age band-aid!

Benjy 31 Jul 09

I’m gonna guess business cards, too…

Bob Martens 31 Jul 09

Integration across apps!? Please!

Adam 31 Jul 09

Looks more like gauze than a band-aid…

doofus 31 Jul 09

a widget acting as a dashboard of info from your accounts that allows for updates without logging in as well as becoming a constant brand reminder.

No idea, but I hope it’s what @RickVugteveen is suggesting.

Kris 31 Jul 09

HBI – oh now you guess what THAT means!

Looks like the background of money. I’ll bet it’s 37Signals Bucks. Earn them by doing their dirty work, use them to pay for services.

brett 31 Jul 09

looks like a blank cheque for my liking…

Who Cares 31 Jul 09

Taking a dump?

Bad Guesser 31 Jul 09

Limited edition 37signals trading cards, because, let’s face it, cool and edgy small-team companies these days are the technology equivalent of boy bands.

Chris 31 Jul 09

Your new line of 37s security envelopes.

Keith Lang 31 Jul 09

Mouse pad :-)

jDeppen 31 Jul 09

Free iPhone app (sweet).

I would also go for integration between 37s apps (or just to-do list templates in Highrise deals).

Keep up the good work.

Anonymous Coward 31 Jul 09

Obviously, this post is only inviting the formation of unrealistic expectations. The real answer can only disappoint.

karl 31 Jul 09

37s branded dog tags?

beet 31 Jul 09

It’s a soap box!

No, it’s a Nintendo DS skin!

You’re releasing 37s credit cards! (not)

um… a ceramic sushi serving dish? That’s all I’ve got

ElEm 31 Jul 09

I guess it’s a small little new service built around personal identity… Perhaps an online identity/business card service, maybe with an openid provider service mixed in (yes I know the space is crowded but…)

Ryan 31 Jul 09

Based on the moneylike pattern in the background, I’m going to take a risk and assume it’s something financially focused. I seriously doubt it’s a Mint.com competitor, so it’s maybe an invoicing product? Sure there’s already a bunch that tie-in with 37s’ products, but why not one that REALLY ties-in?

Either that, or you’re planning on opening your own credit union.

Aleexander Polyakov 31 Jul 09

Id card for 37Signals conference, maybe.

PraP 31 Jul 09

No Idea ??

Alain 31 Jul 09

A new browser.

Mitch 31 Jul 09

It’s nothing? an experiment in feed back for something that could be a lot of things? that would be awesome :)

Jeppe 31 Jul 09

Def 37id. How could it be anything else?

Morgan 31 Jul 09

Greetings, For some weird reason the background SCREAMS Google Wave integration. Probably one of the more out there guesses, but…that’s what it says to me. :)

A partnership between depends and 37signals?

EH 31 Jul 09

I’m gonna guess, “twitterish.”

Davide Benini 31 Jul 09

This is an iPhone app mockup. Look at the format :)

Max 31 Jul 09

Come on. Gift vouchers!

Christophe Franco 31 Jul 09

Looks like a Growl notification to me…

Callum Mcleod 31 Jul 09

World Peace!

Muiden 31 Jul 09

This must be some widget or a part of an iPhone app!

Ahmad Alhashemi 31 Jul 09

QuickBooks competitor of sorts.

Claus 31 Jul 09

It looks like a Rorschach-esque guessing game designed to poll your fanbase about what it is you should be working on…

Or an Iphone app…

texeter 31 Jul 09

A card for camouflaging micro-dots – making it easy to pass them to enemy agents.

Frédéric de Villamil 31 Jul 09

37 Signals visa card?

Stephen L 31 Jul 09

I’m going to guess unification of user accounts across all apps into a single “37signals id” for each user.

Sort of like OpenID, you mean?

Stephen

Jérémy P. 31 Jul 09

Uh oh… Drop shadows?! :/

Leo Kuba 31 Jul 09

For sure, the new 37signals’ business cards :)

jason 31 Jul 09

A refrigerator magnet?

pete 31 Jul 09

Looks like the background to a CAPTCHA too me.

Dave 31 Jul 09

It’s a 292×155 pixel Portable Network Graphic file.

Nice work!

Ben 31 Jul 09

At first glance I thought it was a jpg, but after review, I’m quite certain it’s a png.

Ben Lacy 31 Jul 09

Business card seems too obvious…not sure what else it could realistically be though.

Chris 31 Jul 09

Windows Seal of Genuine Authenticity Stickers?

David Barnes 31 Jul 09

A 37SignalPhone? That’ll really put all you fanboys in a quandary.

D 31 Jul 09

A Secret recipe for Banana Bread!

Jon 31 Jul 09

WOW ! I’m not sure which is sillier…the fact that so many people made guesses based on a vague shape….or the fact that I read them all. Hmmmm…wish you guys would get back to posting really relevant stuff instead of silly stuff. Although, I guess baiting the hook constantly is good marketing.

David 31 Jul 09

Rather than app, I think it’s mobile web or iphone optimised versions of BaseCamp et al. Do I win anything if I’m right?

Fred 31 Jul 09

An iPhone cover. That’s the backside with the 37signals logo perfectly sized, fitted, and colored to “hide” the camera lens.

John 31 Jul 09

A deck of playing cards. Joker1 = David, Joker2 = Jason, King = Basecamp, Queen = Highrise, etc…

Tim Norris 31 Jul 09

CFD – computational fluid dynamics study of the dynamics of things that flow. Using CFD , you can build a computational model that represents a system or device that you want to study. Then you apply the fluid flow physics and chemistry to this virtual prototype, and the software will output a prediction of the fluid dynamics and related physical phenomena.

In other words, your book cover???

David 31 Jul 09

Guys, come one. It’s a 292px ×155px .PNG file! Hosted on S3 Amazon!

Michael Boyle 31 Jul 09

Business card view for a new job board website?

A “What I’m working on” widget.

Anonymous Coward 31 Jul 09

Nathan Fitzsimmons 31 Jul 09

Artificial Buzz creator? No, what Dave! said.

Anonymous Coward 31 Jul 09

Wireless vibrating butt-plug? To give you a buzz if a project milestone is updated, for instance.

Jared Goralnick 31 Jul 09

While this could be the background for something on the iPhone, but I don’t think they’d show this to us in landscape view if it were to be an app—plus they wouldn’t have webbing in the background on an app.

By going landscape view and showing the webbing—I’m thinking this is actually much closer to a real finished product. And that product, like Fred said, is an iPhone skin with their logo on it. And whoever guesses that in the thread ought to get a free one!

Porta 31 Jul 09

A pony? +1 business cards

steve 31 Jul 09

An asshole patch, meters the dosage of bad ideas.

Dennis Schwartz 31 Jul 09

Looks like a virtual business card to me. Could be something web based involving OpenID and microformats to unify 37signals accounts over all products.

Tim 31 Jul 09

It’s simply a new way to view your Contacts within Highrise.

Much like Outlooks ability to display your Contacts are “business cards”

Mark 31 Jul 09

I doubt this is a landscape view of anything. Rather, it’s the top portion, cropped. Given that, I’d say it’s an upcoming redesign of SvN.

indi 31 Jul 09

I don’t know what it is … but I want one!

John 31 Jul 09

A virtual business card / profile for use in the new expanded job board.

Basically, the board now can be used to match people to people, people to projects, etc. —not just people to positions.

Mark 31 Jul 09

Whatever it is, it’s proven to be a great method for generating some free ideas for you.

Got to give you a golf clap on that, anyway.

Luis Diaz 31 Jul 09

A license to kill!

Vincent 31 Jul 09

An augmented reality business card for 37s

or

A digital identity/business card to present businesses side by side, so people can choose one as if they were disposed on a table

Brian Armstrong 31 Jul 09

It is great marketing by building anticipation!

http://gettingreal.37signals.com/ch13_Hollywood_Launch.php

Tom S 31 Jul 09

A flash cards product?

Yuri 31 Jul 09

Definitly a mobile version of a 37signals product.

I’m guessing for Highrise or Basecamp.

Sry, no joke comes to my mind now…

Anthony 31 Jul 09

RFID blocker/protection

Bryan 31 Jul 09

A unified billing system. I’m guessing something 37s already uses internally to track billing across all of their applications.

Something perhaps referenced at the bottom of this post from December: http://37signals.com/svn/posts/753-ask-37signals-how-do-you-process-credit-cards

“We’ve also recently started a major conversion of our internal systems to a centralized billing system. In the past each product had its own internal billing engine. Today we’re centralizing this. We’re essentially building an internal web service that our other products can talk to when they need to charge a card.”

gerardo 31 Jul 09

Something involving lolcats?

Jason 01 Aug 09

37id

Matthew 01 Aug 09

How about a site redesign by JZ?

Nicholas Henry 01 Aug 09

@bryan—yes, maybe they’re opening up their billing system as another product.

Michael Troy 01 Aug 09

Hey. This looks like a blank cheque to me.

Jason 01 Aug 09

A money management system or something to help companies “stop the bleeding” ?

Happy 01 Aug 09

The cover for Rework.

Or, maybe a captha-protected, augmented reality, pony generator iPhone app.

Michal 01 Aug 09

Wiget for sure

Justin Reese 01 Aug 09

I dunno, but the light’s hitting it at a funny angle.

Tim Trautmann 01 Aug 09

Either a financial service (micro payment service perhaps) or something related to authentication/authenticity.

Pete Davison 02 Aug 09

A mattress?

Will Willis 02 Aug 09

you haven’t a clue what it is, you’re hoping someone posts a good idea you can use… innovative.

Matthew Conway 02 Aug 09

Something Growl-related?

Finster 02 Aug 09

Based on the patterning in the back I would imagine that it’s something money related, like a gift card.

Jacob Rothstein 03 Aug 09

My guess is that it’s a hollywood launch step 1 teaser (http://gettingreal.37signals.com/ch13_Hollywood_Launch.php). Exciting to watch getting real in action.

Devan 03 Aug 09

Jolt Cola slow release patch….just apply to back of neck…

Levi Figueira 03 Aug 09

“Warranty void if removed”

cj 03 Aug 09

Lovely. I think it does need a little finishing off though but its almost there.

nic 03 Aug 09

What’s the prize?

Anonymous Coward 03 Aug 09

A flattish rectangular thing having proportions approximately 2:1 and emblazoned with the 37s logo.

stuart 03 Aug 09

It is a business card, with a tag printed on, probably a Microsoft Surface one I am willing to wager.

aris 03 Aug 09

A parsley chopper made from a new an innovative composite material: hard plastic intertwined with undulating strands of titanium for added strength and discrete cutting foci. The card’s sharpness can be restored with a regular knife steel giving you countless (1,356) hours of actual parsley cutting joytime!

WARNING : While this fits in your wallet for added portability, it might chop your fingers off when you pry out other items.

peter 03 Aug 09

cover of your new book. or part of it.

Jimmy Thomas 03 Aug 09

Business cards with this aspect ratio of 1.88 would look even odder than Eastern European cards specified at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_card#Dimensions.

Neither is it a golden rectangle ( 1.618) symbolizing golden products by 37s.

I second the parsley chopper idea—my short-term memory in a thread like this is only a few inches tall.

Happy 03 Aug 09

“authentic liscenced 37signals product.” sticker like Microsoft has on the back of my Dell.

Alan R 03 Aug 09

Billboard/Message Receiver for messages from extraterrestrial intelligence.

Also available in various sizes as placemats, door mats, and bandages.

aunt flo 03 Aug 09

a maxipad?

Justin 03 Aug 09

Looks like the walkman logo

Robbie 03 Aug 09

I second the captcha idea, but that seems so boring.

karl 03 Aug 09

hm, new website maybe. but you might take another stab at that logo, it’s pretty similar to the sony ericsson walkman logo.

http://planetimagehost.com/images/67684_sony_ericsson_w890.jpg

http://shubox.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/sony_walkman_logo.png

Anonymous Coward 03 Aug 09

karl, 37signals had that logo design in 1999 – far before Sony Ericsson’s design.

MT Heart 04 Aug 09

Conference name tag.

Nick Lindwall 04 Aug 09

mailing labels??

Stefan Seiz 04 Aug 09

It’s the 37s bank note,. Cut out the crap. One bank note, one number, no change and no coins. Who needs various bank note, with differing numbers on them?

In these days where larger sums are mostly being paid by plastic, one bank note, should suffice ;-)

My 37cents.

stefan seiz 04 Aug 09

Please excuse my terrible spelling and punctuation. Why don’t i ever use the preview? And why isn’t there an “Edit” instead ;-)

Jorn Mineur 04 Aug 09

A pillow.

Rudi Meyer 04 Aug 09

Okay cut it out guys, good suggestions – but way off.

What we have here is a totally new market endeavor of the 37Signals guys…

Kitchen appliances! And what you see here is the first layout of “The button”

Image Micro wave owen, dishwashers and blenders that the general public can use to the fullest :)

Mike 04 Aug 09

Calendar access for free BackPackIt accounts?

Davin Risk 04 Aug 09

Robot butlers. Obviously.

Harsh 04 Aug 09

A website. Thats what your job is.

karl 04 Aug 09

Anonymous Coward, Sony came up with that logo in 2000, prob was branded the year before that, just a fyi.

karl 04 Aug 09

I’d call it a 37signals idea generator. Kudos on collecting lots of ideas!

Darren Marshall 04 Aug 09

Business/promotional cards for 37s affiliates.

Maxi 04 Aug 09

I guess it is a business card xD

Mizanur Chowdhury 05 Aug 09

The new book from 37signals that I have heard so much about?

Mizanur Chowdhury 05 Aug 09

iPhone cover?

@Stefan Seiz , by not allowing an edit button on the comments section, it forces users to (at least) think twice before typing and proof read their comments carefully, before posting. I think it’s a great idea :)

Brandon Martinez 06 Aug 09

Growl, definitely :)
