Craig Davey joins 37signals Aug 12 2009

Hot off the heels of Joshua Peek, Craig Davey is joining 37signals as our first dedicated support programmer. Unlike Peek who won’t be starting until January, Craig is coming on full time starting Monday. Craig will be assisting Sarah and Michael on support, working on support infrastructure, and generally helping around the growing house of 37s.
Craig impressed us from day one with his wonderful job application that listed both apps that he had worked on and a bunch of Rails patches that he had submitted. He then dazzled us over a number of weeks as we did our usual trial run where he worked on real issues with the team.
Craig is the second Canadian that we’ve hired and he’s the 16th signal.
(Okay, seriously, we’re going to take a little break from this hiring spree that we’ve been rocking lately.)

Good luck over there Craig! We’re still enjoying your previous work ;)

Canada represent! Welcome aboard, Craig.

Great choice 37Signals team.
I just visited Craig’s website. The negative space could not be more precise. The black background with enough line height space to increase text readability… pretty good job.

I think it’s amazing that so few people make products that serve so many so well. It’s not just the production of the core web apps but also Rails, the books, the secondary web apps, Signal vs Noise (of course), and support for all of this.
I think anyone would be hard pressed to find a 16 person company anywhere with the level of industry respect or quality of output that you have. To many companies, the 16th hire is just a stepping stone to becoming a medium-sized company for the hell of it, so that they can start organizing committees and printing org charts; I hope that the past year’s events will continue to shock them into becoming more efficient.

I wonder who would be the 37th signal!! There will be a special part?! Let us be at the party, at least over the web! :)
Congrats on the outstanding company and team, Guilherme

I second Alex’s comment. Nice to see a local guy joining the 37signals’ team.

Will there be a special ceremony when you hire your 37th signal? At this pace, that’ll be sometime next year—right?
Jeff Mackey 12 Aug 09
Congrats!

Congrats Craig!
Too bad you didn’t end up at JadedPixel, I loved what I have seen so far!
Cheers, Dennis

:)
Anyway, congratulations!

I would like to read some post on how all of these new people fit into 37signals.
You guys have literally double in staff in just 6 months. Going from 7-8 people to 16.
That’s a huge change.

Welcome to the team Craig!

Congratulations, Craig!

Fuck Yeah Craig!
You’re now one of my heroes by default.

Tim: Actually, I was the 8th employee, and I was hired nearly 3 years ago. We have been growing fairly rapidly lately though, but it hasn’t been a doubling in size in the last 6 months—thank goodness. We have absolutely no desire to grow anymore than we absolutely have to.

“I take great care with my written correspondance”
And I also leave the domain suffix off my email address… Or is that just to test whether 37s really wants you?
Urhg, just having fun nitpicking.

Will be interesting to see if 37s produces a “support” app. I’d love to see 37s produce more broadly useful applications. The current lineup seems fairly niche.

Who is going to be the 37th Signal, then? Great mystery…
Anon 13 Aug 09
His “wonderful job application” doesn’t look so wonderful in IE8 (in IE7 compatibility mode).
Tor Løvskogen Bollingmo 13 Aug 09
You better call the IE police then.
Anon 13 Aug 09
I would, but I know they’re very busy at the moment:
