This is exactly why I make my team publish a memo 1 day before the meeting.

Otherwise the conversation is to be had on basecamp, or some collaboration software like Skype.

I find it makes the people work harder to justify the reason for the meeting.

2 or 3 people collaborating on a project is a meeting.

They’re all not horrible Dilbert-land concoctions. But yeah, a lot are.

Does this mean the Agile SCRUM process is just one be excuse for not working, as it is all about daily meetings and multiple meetings at that?

Pretty sure this is just a stab at corporate style meeting that could be resolved quickly via another mechanism. In my experience though working with clients as an agency, there’s no replacement for a productive face to face meeting.

I used to have this up on my office wall – one of my favorites. It always got people’s attention.

haha, I agree with this. This “meeting” attitude seems to penetrate many aspects of our lives like: waste time on facebook and other sites alike check out the new sensational news on digg show the busy sign on your IM client and countless other things that don’t really contribute to any long term results.

I disagree with the “no-meetings ideology”. Like everything, fanatically following the no-meetings approach can be hurtful. Meetings can be productive, and as with everything else, it really depends on how you run your meetings.

I’ve had meetings where we set a time slot to discuss a topic, prepare an agenda, and everyone comes well prepared to contribute to the discussion – and at the end of it, everyone feels refreshed and energized.

So don’t hate all meetings, just get efficient with the way you run them.

There is nothing wrong with meetings in and of themselves. The problem is when people don’t know how to properly run a meeting or properly establish the objective/goals of the meeting.

I think the same goes for conferences. As I read numerous fluffed-up reports on how great this conference sponsored by XYZ advertising ABC was, I tend to think the practical use and value for the majority of conferences are questionable.

Anyone know where I can get this in high-res? I need to print it and frame it.
