I love the part in Rework talking about sketching with a Sharpie in order to reduce detail. Something I will be implementing immediately.

I used to sketch with a Sharpie in figure drawing class at AIPX . My instructors hated it but I agree with Jason + David, it helped lay down basic strokes that kept me from getting sucked into the details too early.
