While editing a reply to Kiran’s tweet, I accidentally backspaced right into his Twitter handle. Twitterrific for iPad smartly noticed this and offered to restore the @reply. Nice!

Cool feature. @Berserk, I think this way is better, since there would probably be some cases where you would want to edit the handle. Also, this was probably a lot easier to program and doesn’t introduce any additional UI components. Pretty well executed I would say.

Well, it could just as easily have been like this: If you’re backspacing into the handle, ask the user if he wants to remove the handle in the same manner it is now. That way there are no extra UI elements until deletion of the name has started, and if you didn’t mean to delete the name (which I would guess is the more common situation when writing a reply) no extra action is required – you can just continue writing and the handle is intact.
But yes, this was likely easier for the programmers.

@Adam screenshots on iPad work just like on iPhone: press the home and lock buttons simultaneously. The screen will flash and save the image to your photos. There are a number of ways to move the photos off the device from there.

The functionality is good but I’d prefer a small button labeled “Fix” rather than the text “Tap here to fix it.”
It’s not immediately clear where the region defined by “here” is, and a button could provide visual feedback upon being clicked.

I can’t think of any situations where somebody would want to change part of a handle, so it shouldn’t be possible to backspace into it at all. It should behave like email addresses do in the “To” field in mail – first backspace highlights the entire handle and a second deletes it. At this stage the message above could appear and allow restoration of it.

What if you wanted to change the reply to a DM? You would need to replace the @ symbol with ‘d ’.

Well you might actually be typing a handle, and need to backspace to correct typos, but sure, if the @reply was started by the app, not too many situations arise.
