REWORK in the Wild: The Winners May 20 2010
43 comments Latest by Anonymous Coward
When REWORK was released we launched a “REWORK in the Wild” promotion. We asked people to upload a photo of their physical (or digital) copy of REWORK. We said we’d pick our favorite and send that person an iPad.
Check out all the submissions at Flickr.
The winner(s)
We were originally going to pick one winner, but we decided to pick three instead. Some people got really creative.

From Adamsentz

From Victor “Scott”

From holmjohnii
We’ll be in touch with the winners over the next few days.
Thanks to everyone who submitted a photo. And thanks to everyone who’s read REWORK. We hope you’ve enjoyed it.

So, one of your winners is a bunch of white guys reading your book? And another is bad photoshop. And another is a young black girl smoking a cigar?
Unh-uh. I’d like to assume that this is a joke…

What do people win?

“We said we’d pick our favorite and send that person an iPad.”
DHH 20 May 10
Martin, yes, these are the images we consider the best of the bunch. What exactly is your problem with them?
AC, iPads.
Frank Lakatos 20 May 10
Photo #1 wouldn’t went way over the top if they coulda made that deer on the wall reading a copy.
Frank Lakatos 20 May 10
s/wouldn’t/woulda
Victor Scott 20 May 10
@Martin Edic The picture I did was 100% in camera. There was no photoshop involved at all.
Watch the behind the scenes video to see how I got the shot.

“So, one of your winners is a bunch of white guys reading your book?”
What’s wrong with a bunch of white guys reading books?
I bought the book. Good read. I’m not going to use it as a bible though but was really interesting to get the 37 signals perspective on business. Job well done.
Merrick 20 May 10
Pretty disappointing… Though Victor’s is pretty good…
DHH's Grandmother 20 May 10
I dont getta the 3rd pic…what’s so creative in it? I’ll beat the crap out of you, if I see my grand-daughter smoking cigars! And before she read ‘Rework’ ask her finish the god damn ‘Oliver Twist’!!
Alan 20 May 10
“a bunch of white guys reading your book”?
How do you know that’s a bunch of white guys? Are you using racial profiling?
jon 20 May 10
1. Why the hell are all you guys just standing around reading a book when you should be working, damn it!
2. Your boss is a Dumb Ass!
3. Sometimes a business plan is just a business plan!
Lily 20 May 10
As usual, the ones who don’t win are jealous… These pictures are funny and creative. What’s the problem?
riddle 20 May 10
Yes, I love those pics.
I’m not adding anything constructive to the discussion, but I hate when bunch of whiners pretends to be majority.
Lee McAlilly 20 May 10
Martin sounds like he lost.
Nicole 20 May 10
I think all the pictures are really good. I love the “boss” one. don’t be a hater!
Rich E. 20 May 10
I think all three are great. Good choices. Congratulations to the winners!
wahyu 20 May 10
a kid with cigar is just unpleasant to see. I like your book.
Dan 20 May 10
Top photo, guy on the right and to the front:
Nice stache!
Tarus Balog 20 May 10
Damn. I just posted about REWORK with a picture:

That’s Nice Port, France in the background. Not as good as the others, of course, but still …
Adam Sentz 20 May 10
Thanks guys! I’m glad you got a kick out of it.
@Dan – Thanks! (that’s me)
Kirk 20 May 10
I hope the “white guys” are the Diaspora team.
BradM 20 May 10
People will find anything to complain about.
Anyways, personal favorite was the Wedding Photo with the priest.
Cat 20 May 10
Woo! Fun shots, congrats to the winners – especially that tall, dark, and handsome mustachioed gentleman.
David Andersen 20 May 10
You know Martin, 24 Page Books is pretty good, unless of course somebody comes up with 23 Page Books. Then you’re in trouble, huh?
lifted from “There’s Something About Mary”
Adam Sentz 20 May 10
@Kirk – Haha. They are the Populi team.
Brian 20 May 10
Congrats to the winners. Tough luck to the whiners.
Though, I sure had high hopes for this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sky_nerd/4419997553/in/pool-reworkwild
Took me a while to stitch that puppet together, too. ;)
Nicole 20 May 10
I liked your puppet Brian
Eric 20 May 10
I’m also a fan of the puppet. Nicely done.
JF 20 May 10
Liked the puppet a lot. There was another puppet one too – a Steve Job puppet.
Shawn 20 May 10
I just find it ironic that the winner gets an iPad, while the book itself still isn’t available from the iBookstore. REPUBLISH ?
JF 21 May 10
Shawn: Our publisher is staying out of the iBookstore for now. Nothing we can do about that. However, REWORK is available in Kindle format which looks great especially good on the iPad.
Alan Sangma 21 May 10
Congratulations to the winners! Fun stuff. :)
I think this guy deserves an honorable mention.
~Alan
Ian 21 May 10
This can’t be serious.
Zoso 21 May 10
Strangely most of them are still physical books instead of the e-books. Mind throwing in any figures when compared to ‘Getting Real’ ?
Martin Edic 21 May 10
I actually am one of those white guys I complain about…and I didn’t enter though I should- my copy lies on the bathroom floor. As for iBookstore, Apple still hasn’t released their requirements for formatting unless you’re a big publisher. We’re forced to go through a partner like Libredigital. Not a bad option but they take a piece. First time through Rework was a little disappointing but the second time I thought it was great. Can’t wait for the movie…I think it would be even better at 24 pages…
Adam 24 May 10
Um, sorry to be a dick but the first photo was submitted a month and a half after the entry deadline. I worked hard to get my photos in by the deadline :-/
Why even bother posting a submission deadline on the contest rules?
JF 24 May 10
Adam: You’re right. We’ll have to pick another winner.
Anonymous Coward 24 May 10
@Adam
“BONUS: We will pick one photo, uploaded between March 9th, 2010 and April 9th, 2010, and that person will win a free iPad. Once we’ve picked it we’ll get in touch with that person and make the announcement here as well.”
That photo was uploaded March 22, 2010.
Adam Sentz 24 May 10
I’m really sorry if I screwed something up. I know a lot of people put in a lot of effort to try to win this contest, and I certainly didn’t mean to screw anyone over.
I honestly didn’t even know there was a contest or anything – that was just a photo idea I had to go with a case study we submitted (http://productblog.37signals.com/products/2010/03/populi-campfire-has-all-but-replaced-the-replyall-email-noise-that-used-to-plague-the-office.html).
My wife waking me up with the news that 37signals picked my photo and that I won an iPad, and the all my friends and family congratulating me made for the most exciting day I’ve had in a while. Of course now I feel like crap about it.
Still really enjoyed Rework, and I’m glad you guys like the picture.
JF 24 May 10
Adam: We’ll send you one still – we announced you were a winner on the blog. We’ll just pick another winner as well. We’ll be in touch shortly.
Adam Sentz 25 May 10
@JF Cool. Thanks!
Anonymous Coward 25 May 10
Another winner? Ooooh…. there’s a plot twist!
