Do you guys use some type of stylus when you’re iPad sketching?
Nathanael Boehm 20 Mar 12
Is that for real i.e. are those the actual sketches or have they been recreated or redacted? Just seem a bit sparse :)
Chris Sedlmayr 20 Mar 12
What do you use for your sketching?
Ryan 20 Mar 12
Nathanael,
Those are real. On our sketching style, see this post.

They’re using a home-grown tool called Draft

Jason, do you move straight to HTML /CSS from here or make a quick stop somewhere else first? (like photoshop or more detailed sketches).

Early concept for the project blank slate (empty project, no content yet)... so, we don’t have much thing to talk here!
Mike 21 Mar 12
Wow, those sketches communicate absolutely nothing.
Andrew 21 Mar 12
@Mike huh?
They communicate exactly what needs to be communicated at that stage in the process!
Scott 21 Mar 12
@mike Keep in mind these aren’t created in a vacuum and thrown over to developers. Everyone involved already has some context of what the sketches are about.
Mike 21 Mar 12
@Scott: yes, and keep in mind that this blog post has exactly one line of context. For me it’s just a bunch of squiggly lines.
Berserk 21 Mar 12
@Scott: Exactly, without context they don’t communicate much.
The only one standing somewhat on itself is the discarded tabs.
What would be more interesting is showing the progress,
for a few chosen parts.

...kind of like the post after this one.

Was the initial design at least done in photoshop? Meaning not the interface but the look and feel of the platform?
JF 23 Mar 12
Chantal: No. Paper first then HTML .
