I think he means a river goes where it goes, it doesn’t pick and choose, it just goes. Unless the Army Corps of Engineers gets in the mix then all bets are off.

That’s probably it. I guess a river adjusts to many things. And changes it’s nature to do so, which almost seems like an opposing point…

@GeeIWonder and others: I also think of David Allen’s (GTD) use of “Be like water. If a pebble comes, water gives pebble reaction. I a boulder is chucked into it: Boulder reaction”.
I like the sentiment. An important addition to the “Find your style!” that artists so often get to hear. “How?!” I want to ask. “Why?!”.
