Very cool and clever.
Word to the wise though: If you’re at dinner with someone (or somewhere) special and want to seem like you actually want to be there, avoid taking your whatsit out to photograph your food. yes, it will get on the menu and yes, you may satisfy the curiosity of someone checking twitter or facebook at work tomorrow but no, your dining companions won’t be impressed.

Taking pictures of food and “sharing” them is the 2nd worst thing ever created for the internet. Second only to Foursquare.
One, I do not give a shit that you are the mayor of your local taco bell, starbucks, or whatever. I could care less where you are right now unless your either A) my wife or B) my kids.
Two, not only do I not care where you are, I certainly don’t give a flying fuck what your eating. Really, your having a beautifully presented plate of spaghetti? Who the hell gives a shit! Or is this a… “hey, look how cool I am that I’m eating a fancy plate of food” thing?.
As for Instagram in general, why the hell would I want to look at pictures that were taken from my parent’s polaroid camera in 1972?
“oh my god, I have no clue what I am going to eat so I’ll get my smart phone out and have it help me”... seriously, people’s mind’s are going to be mush a few centuries out. We need devices to tell us where to go, what to eat, when to excercies, etc. Pretty soon there will be an app to tell us when to take a dump.
I love foursquare and instagram for different reasons. Foursquare because I get to compete with my friends in a silly game that takes up literally about 1 minute of my day. Instagram because it’s easy to enhance and share photos on multiple platforms, it’s a quick way to make an artistic expression.
Most of all I use these things because they don’t force me to THINK about what I want to do and I just get to enjoy what I’m doing. That may be seen as lazy but I don’t really care as I’m having more fun than you are.

“I’m having more fun than you are”... right, because I’m not using these things, I am most certainly not having any fun, or at nearly as much as you. I mean how would that be possible. Its unimaginable that people actually had fun before smart phones came along just a few short years ago.

Here’s an app: the number of photos you take at dinner with friends is inversely proportional to the importance of those friends to you (and directly proportional to their disdain for you). Apply for a couple of weeks and then you can weed out people you don’t like anyways and that are probably secretly wishing the waiter spills something on you and your tablet.

Andrew, I’ve stopped using FourSquare unless I’m on vacation. I check into the places I visit, so I don’t forget where I’ve been. It totally helps when I’m making up my vacation slides!

Someone is cynical…
