AS3 is great for offloading content you’d use that would bog down your site (mp3s, large files). Curious if Bezos cut you a deal on the AS3 or if you’ve got to pay the normal rates. Not to sound like I’m taking the piss because it rubs with a bit of nepotism, cause I agree the service is wonderful… just wondering.

We pay what everyone else pays. The S3 rates are really low all things considered. There are no special deals for us.

We’re thinking about using S3 for a fairly media rich site in the near future. I’m interested to know to what extent you’ve opted to use the service – just for backups, or are you actually serving directly from S3? If the latter, are you maintaining your backups inside or outside of S3?
I’m probably asking a bit much but it would be great to hear a bit about the decision making process you went through with this integration and roughly what configuration you arrived at.
It’s going to be really interesting to see how services like S3, EC1 , etc. affect our industry, as smaller companies become able to develop and maintain more and more demanding applications, on a shoestring.
