I drop the figurine from the same height in complete darkness while the lens of the camera is open. When the figurine hits the ground, the sound triggers the lights to go off for a fraction of a second.

Excellent. I’ve seen other images like this with splashing liquid, popping balloon, and breaking glasses. Something about using a person figurine gives it a wonderful quality.
The technique, for anyone into photography, is simple and straightforward, and almost the only way to do it (or the only way that is both simple and straightforward).
It also reminds me of the end of The Usual Suspects, with the coffee mug being dropped and shattering on the floor. I love how the multiple views of that are quite obviously multiple takes.

Ironically , the photo gallery could really benefit from lightbox’s auto resizing. On my laptop i needed to scroll each time a new pic loaded to be able to see it.

Make magazine ran an article about High Speed Photography with instructions on making a sound or light operated strobe from the flash in a disposable camera. They also sell a kit with preassembled flash trigger, and have a Flickr pool with some pretty impressive photos.
