Allow me to introduce myself and my squid Phineas X. Jones Jan 14

You’re probably wondering why I’m here. And so am I. The best I can hope to do is at least explain how I got here.

Some time back I was invited to play Werewolf at the 37signals/Coudal compound. Since everyone seemed intent on killing me off as soon as possible (despite the fact that I was never the werewolf) I actually spent most of the time sketching. Jason liked what I had in my book and asked if I’d be interested in posting from time to time here on SvN.

What was I supposed to say, no?

So here, a mere four months or so later, is my first post of the very squid sketch that started this whole thing. I expect I’ll be posting at odd intervals with whatever I’ve been working on, and possibly a bit of commentary on process. I hope it’s of interest.

Below the fold, the further adventures of the squid…

Here’s a more developed pencil version, that turned into…

...this screen print which, in a stunning coincidence, happens to be for sale.

I love mafia! (werewolf) We always had one kid that got voted off first round no matter what, too. He got sick of it and stopped playing

So is Phineas X. Jones = Sarah Hatter?

Doesn’t Sarah provide customer support for 37signal services as well.

Great pic of the 37signals office

Uh, no. Phineas = Phineas. Sarah = Sarah.

I’m not Phineas, but I do provide support for 37signals. You know we’re different people because I can’t draw.

Look’s a bit like a penis, no?

Funny coincidence…. We used to play mafia all the time, the mere mention of the word always reminds me of highschool. Then I check out your wesbite and I see you have al rose’s image as part of some of your artwork. We used to go to Kopi all the time in highschool and of course al rose would play there pretty frequently. I wasn’t the biggest fan of al’s music back then, could be awesome now, I have no idea, I should give it a listen. But jesus, do i know you Phineas?

@Sarah

”...I actually spent most of the time sketching....”

If you are not Phineas X. Jones, then why did Phineas link to your Flickr account?

Seems like trickery going on to me :)

I took that picture of Phineas sketching, Tim. I don’t have arms that extend to the back of my body and wrap around me so I can take a picture of myself drawing. I am awesome, but sadly not that awesome.

Plus, again, I am not good at drawing.

Fabulous work! I like how loose the clothes fit on the squid. Congrats on the gig!
