The Wonderful Audi R8 Superbowl Ad (bigger version). Click though to Truth in Engineering, click on “Truth in the Godfather” and then click “Behind the Scenes” to get a look at the how and why of the ad.

Dude, that is freaking awesome! lol Beautiful car and wonderful ad.

Rick 04 Feb 08

Are you trying to tell us you drive an R8?

Benjy 04 Feb 08

That R8 is one sweet looking car! I came across a black one in the parking of MicroCenter in Chicago about 2 weeks ago and snapped a couple pics with my iPhone.

Audi better should take care about some alternative power unit technology instead of creating cars that nobody or only rich people can drive because of very high oil prices. Soon all those cars are worthless – because nobody can use them.

R8 = German Handcrafted Car The Ad = Not that good. This here is much better:

Beautiful.

The car is beautiful. Really nice touches all the way around on it.

The ad, on the other hand, had me reaching for the remote. Knock five seconds off the old man in bed Godfather homage and show more car!

They definitely did a great job making the product the hero of the ad though.

First Tim Ferris and now SVN with glowing reviews of the R8.

Interestingly, neither blog have covered cars very much in the past.

C’mon – was this a PayPerPost?

JF 04 Feb 08

A PayPerPost? I don’t even know what that is.

We’ve mentioned cars plenty here. And this isn’t a review of a car, it’s a link to a commercial which I thought was pretty cool so I popped it up here on SvN.

It’s where advertisers pay a fee to bloggers to blog about their product:

There was an interesting article about it in this month’s Wired magazine.

Great car, great ad :) “Truth in Going Slow” is awesome also! Sad, what no “Behind the Scenes” procided http://www.truthinengineering.com/super-bowl/truth-in-going-slow.html

I love your column. But this is a bit over the top for me. How about we look at alternatives like VW’s Bluemotion Polo available NOW in the U.K. that gets about 75MPG and emits less than a Prius – http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/bluemotion/. That is cool!

$109,000 suggested retail price for US. Ouch.

J 05 Feb 08

I don’t know what’s worst – the straight-faced enthusing in that Behind the Scenes video about the artistic vision of a goddamn car commercial (an easy parody gag at that), the fact that they even made a Behind the Scenes video, someone being impressed enough by it to encourage others to view it, or me wasting five minutes of my life complaining about it all.

Matt Brown 05 Feb 08

I will never drive anything other than an Audi. You pay a price, but the technology, quality, speed and styling cannot be beat! Case closed.

Eric G. 05 Feb 08

Its good to see some designers and public faces (Ferriss) enjoying great cars and not just playing the green card.

I got to drive the R8 last fall at the track in Joliet at an Audi event and it was a blast. Yes, $109k is steep, but if you’re in the market, its a deal considering it shares some parts from the Lamborghini Gallardo
