Certainly one of the most creative concepts I’ve seen in a long time. What a kick ass idea. Here’s more pictures and information about the artist if you’re interested.

Want!

Those are some seriously cool pieces of work. I agree with BFF , “WANT”!

The internet approves and gives +1

Wow, they’re pretty impressive. A friend of mine does book sculptures and the amount of patience and perseverence required (not to mention a steady hand!) is quite phenomenal. Here’s some pictures: http://paintalicious.org/2007/04/25/georgia-russells-book-world/

Here’s another interesting art concept with books: Fore-edge painting.

Matt Radel 20 Mar 08

Ha! That’s great. Cool stuff.

Very cool, but I hate seeing damaged books…

Jason Luna 20 Mar 08

Amazing stuff. Great way to make use of out-of-date encyclopediae.

very nice, very original and it’s (sort of) recycling!

cpetersen 20 Mar 08

How are they made?

Dave 20 Mar 08

Cool stuff.

Great. Better than Rauchenberg

Phil E. Drifter 20 Mar 08

You musta been on some kinda drugs to think that up…what were you on, and do you have any more?

Anonymous 20 Mar 08

Phil E. Drifter, you must be incredibly stupid if you think the actual creator of the book is here. If that was a serious question and not an attempt to get attention perhaps you should actually write to Brian Dettmer.

“but I hate seeing damaged books…”

There’s always one in the crowd.

Intriguing! And I thought layered candle carving was intricate!

Amazing artistic book art, not a wasted page and a story of its own, I will never judge a book by its cover again.

Utahluxury.com 21 Mar 08

Seriously cool idea!

Alex 21 Mar 08

Wow! This is impressive. Though i must say, i’m torn between this artistic display and the thought of doing that to a book…

Anonymous, if you’re gonna be a rude-ass punk, use a name, pussy!

LSU ROCKS

Josh Walsh 21 Mar 08

That is extremely creative. Thanks for sharing.

Jon Daniels 21 Mar 08

that’s an incredible ability..i don’t understand how those pages don’t tear in the process..

Andy Jackson 23 Mar 08

Wow those are amazing, are they for sale?

Diog 23 Mar 08

To those who are worried about ruining the books: I work at the family used bookstore and EVERY DAY people want to bring in old encyclopedia sets, Reader’s Digest Condensed books, etc. which we do not have room for. They say that they’ve tried to donate them everywhere, and everyone refuses. They will have to take them to be recycled, or to the dump. I’m talking TONS of old accounting textbooks from the 1970s! Stuff like that! Hundreds – every DAY . I say, turn them into art!
