Detailed version

We're About to Launch 37signals Accounts

In a couple weeks we'll be launching an entirely new username and password system for Basecamp, Highrise, Backpack, and Campfire. We're calling the new system 37signals Accounts. We've been working on it for over a year, and it's more convenient, powerful, and secure than the current system. A big upgrade all around.

The new 37signals Accounts system also lays the groundwork for a variety of enhancements you've been asking for. We'll be working on these in 2010.

What you'll need to do

Starting around December 13 (we'll be rolling this out gradually over a week or so), when you log into your account using your current username and password you'll be prompted to select a new username and password. This will be your new 37signals Account. You'll only have to pick a new username and password once, and it will only take a few seconds.

Why are 37signals Accounts better?

To start, the new username and password system is more secure than the old system. This upgrade brings us up to date with the most modern security standards in our industry.

Plus, instead of having multiple usernames and passwords across different 37signals products, you'll have a single username and password — your new 37signals Account. For example: If you have both a Basecamp and Highrise account, or you're part of three different Basecamp accounts, now you'll have a single username and password and a single place to sign-in to everything. Much simpler.

Other benefits of the new system

  • Centralized sign-in at 37signals.com or any 37signals product marketing site.
  • A "Launchpad" that lists all your accounts and lets you move between them with a single click.
  • A single avatar across products and accounts.
  • Update all your personal information in one place.
  • Tighter integration between products (planned in 2010).
  • Discounted pricing for multiple products (planned in 2010).
  • Centralized billing management (planned in 2010).

We have a lot of great stuff coming together in 2010. But we can't begin development and roll it out until the username and password transition is complete.

Be sure to let your clients know too

If you use Basecamp or Campfire with clients, you'll want to let them know about this transition as well. Everyone who uses a 37signals product will have to pick a new username and password for security purposes. We put together a 37signals Accounts and your clients FAQ to answer some common questions related to the transition.

We put together a detailed "all-about 37signals Accounts" page complete with screenshots and FAQs about the new account features. We're also happy to answer any questions you may have about 37signals Accounts or the transition itself. Just send us an email and we'll get right back to you.

Thank you

Thanks again for being a 37signals customer! We're sorry about the hassle of picking a new username and password, but it'll all be worth it in the end.

Looking forward to 2010 and beyond,

The crew at 37signals
