Do Fuss Don Schenck 18 Nov 2005

A slightly different hue.

Yellow Fade technique.

Fussy things, eh? I mean, from a development point-of-view. Can you imagine spending actual, good time on these silly little things?

Well if you can’t imagine it, start. I’ve heard it many, many times: “Don’t fuss over minute details that don’t really matter”.

Bull. I say, “Do Fuss”.

Spend the time. Put forth the effort. Make it great.

You not happy with the design? “Something” missing? Perhaps that one typeface just isn’t quite right? Well, take the time to fix it. Yes, DO FUSS over that kind of stuff.

Why? WHY? After all, “they” say …

“Don’t bother, it’s just a little thing!”

Well, if it’s just a little thing, then fixing it is just a small matter!

“It’s not worth the time, no one bothers with that.” (One of my favorites)

In that case, you must spend the time! Why … well … if no one else bothers with it, you probably just found your competitive edge! You think the clicking wheel interface on the iPod was done in a few hours? You think it matters?

The only other reason is that you don’t know how. In that case … PERFECT! … a chance to learn. Invest the time over the weekend, learn the skill, and carry it with you the rest of your life.

Do Fuss. Do Sweat The Details. The devil may be in the details, but a Divinely Good product requires attention to detail.
