How on earth did you hire Chris Ware to design your office?

Chris 19 May 10

This going into more detail remembers me of these so-called “bubble diagrams” …

This book(ISBN-13: 978-4887062788) is similar to these figures. There are many detail drawings. Moreover people who live there and much furniture are drawn together. It is fun just to see.

Where’s your Communications Plans? Do you have dedicated TR’s. What communications cable have you specced? What’s your network infrastructure going to be? Have you specced a structured cable system manufacturer?

Side note, don’t let your furniture designer cover up wall outlets with privacy panels, or with immovable furniture.

Double check distance for the communications outlets to the nearest power outlets, they shouldn’t be more than 6’. Check for sane placement of the communication outlets so that you aren’t having to use the rubber speed bumps on day 1 to cross walkways.

Now would be a good time to ceiling mount those WAPS .

I guess with construction you can’t ignore the details early on or work from a Sharpie sketch.

JF 19 May 10

Rich: With that sort of construction not so much, although I was at a site meeting today and we discussed all sorts of other details and decisions that were being made on the fly based on conditions on the ground. Fascinating mix of early precision and in-the-moment decision making.

Love the level of detailing in the plan. And love the importance being paid to the acoustics to maintain that silence in the work-space :) ... people working here are really lucky :)

chrismo 20 May 10

@rich – where’s the jump from seeing the details above to presuming they didn’t ignore the details early on? perhaps it’s in how we presume the blueprints you see above to be analogous to higher level design docs in software. the code is the design.

Saw your video walkthrough and would like to make a digital interactive version of the completed space. If you can supply 3D digital model I can make an interactive walkthrough. http://www.vtourinteractive.com/ Detailing – same in NZ.

spitball: be kind of a bummer to move in and find the power outlets hadn’t arrived yet!

“This item is currently waiting on final UL Approval. It is scheduled to begin shipping in the second quarter of 2010.”
